This publication presents the work of Outi Pieski, a recipient of the Fine Arts Academy of Finland Award, and her exhibition Cuolmmadit shown at EMMA in autumn 2018.
The title of the exhibition, Cuolmmadit, is in the Northern Sami language and means ‘to tie many knots’. It is a reference to the techniques of Sami handicraft, which the artist uses in many of her works.
Outi Pieski: «In Sami culture, which has no written history, one knowledge is preserved in handicraft, among other things, and its research and re-interpretation are vital to the preservation of the culture.»
